Craftie Cafe: Avery Elle Tea Time : Watercolouring with Distress Oxides

IMG_8221Design-team-badge-V1

Hi Everyone and welcome to today’s blog post for the Craftie Cafe Design Team. I will be focusing on the Avery Elle Tea Time stampset again which I have watercoloured with Distress Oxide Inks.

I left my colouring to be a more of a free hand watercolouring effect. I was not concentrating to stay within the lines nor was I  being precise. I let the inks do the work and blending themselves by using a saturated wet brush.

I have ink blended with a range of Distress Oxide Ink colours and an ink blending tool on Ranger watercolour cardstock.  When I personally work with Distress Oxide Ink colours and watercolour cardstock I feel that the watercolour cardstock saps up the inks so I usually add more layers than I would on normal cardstock.  Each panel has been blended then spritz with the Ranger Distress Sprayer and picked up with a cloth (you can use a paper towel also).

TIP: When watercolouring use a Archival type ink so the ink does not run when watercolouring in.

To watercolour Distress Oxide inks however is another matter, I find the pigment picks up really well so if you would like a more watercolour effect I personally use a saturated brush. Everyone find their own methods and tricks , each to their own when it comes to watercolouring. I am no expert by all means and I just love to play and have fun.

I have created 3 different cards using the coloured tea cups and distress oxide blended panels.

The sentiments can be interchangeable with other stampsets. For today I have used those that are part of this Avery Elle stampset but with Mother’s day just around the corner you can use Mother’s Day stampsets that suit tea cups.  My mother in law has the best fine china tea cup collection and I just love going over there as I am mesmerised by the design, details and feminine touch they all have.  This card set will be given to my mother in law as her Mother’s Day gift. I love how my mother in law has taught me so much about hand made gifts as she is a seamstress by trade and can make anything look fabulous.

Let me know which additional stampset you would use to make these more for Mother’s Day.

Check out my video on how these all came together.

Here are the 3 card creations.

Hi All, welcome to today’s blog post where I show case the Avery Elle Tea Time stampset and dies for the Craftie Cafe Online Store.  I made these cards with the same layout but different textures and layers using the Chevron cover die, watercolour inks and texture paste. All subtle differences that slightly alter the look of each cards.

For each card I have used the Avery Elle Watercolour inks which I have used as a watercolor wash for each background.

I have also heat embossed the cups of tea and saucers with Lawn Fawn white heat embossing powder which I then coloured them in Clean & Clear Zig watercolour markers.

Here is the first card where I use the Chevron Die as a stencil then add Ranger Texture Paste in Opaque Matte.

For the next card I have ink blended with Distress Oxide inks over the Chevron die as a stencil.

The last card I have simply added the Chevron die over the top over the colour wash background.

Each card is a top folding white card base. The layers added have either been foam mounted on coloured cardstock or adhered down with liquid adhesive.

I have made a You Tube making this card trio.

DIY Glitter Paste with WOW Sparkles

Hi WOW Paper Crafting Peeps, Jo here bringing to you a very exciting new technique.

Can you imagine making an array of your very own glitter paste?

Well today I show case a technique by using the WOW Sparkles range mixed with Ranger Texture Paste in a Transparent Gloss.

I started off with ink blending some Lawn Fawn Stitched Heart die cuts with Ranger Distress Oxide inks which what I will add my layer of glitter paste on top off.

I made sure the inked die cuts where thoroughly dry but heat setting with my heat gun.

I then moved on to making the paste. To pick up the paste from the jar I used a plastic spatula which is the tool of choice to also mix and combine the sparkles powder and paste.

The WOW crafting mat is really good to protect your surface as well as use as a mixing pallet.

Check out my You Tube on the mixing process.

For the card base I have used white top folding cardstock and black cardstock to die cut the Avery-Elle Horizontal Stripes background die. For the sentiments both hugs dies and add on prayers stampset I have adhered this down on the glitter hearts with either a liquid or foam adhesives.

I hope you enjoyed today’s card creations and would love to hear your thoughts on this technique.

Hugs

Jo
